  • mighty oak

The mighty oak I see outside
It's roots are deep and long
It will live a hundred years
And bend when winds are strong

    I sometimes feel I can't go on
    Losing you is hurting me
I sometimes wish late at night
I had the strength of that old tree

The days my friends they stand by me
They tend to help me through
But then at night when darkness falls
    Again I'm missing you

I try to fight but strength won't come
    Soon I fall apart
Then the tears fall like rain
So alone is a lonesome heart

I sometimes wish I had the strength
To pick up and move along
But memories that I have with you
    Stretches the nights so long

I sometimes wish I had the strength
So I would not fall apart
Missing you is against my will
So alone is a lonesome heart.

  • lost

I held it as a handful of sand, clenching my fist
    to hold it there.
Yet, bit by bit, it slipped through my straining fingers.

Now, nothing but memories of every smile, every kiss,
    and, above all, every word.
For 'twas not into my ear you whispered but into
    my heart.
'Twas not my lips you kissed, but my soul.

And when I opened my tired hand and found my
    love was gone

My handful of existence has vanished.
    My love is lost..

  • wait

    I asked my love to halt on her hurried path;

In transit from the shower to her room; ’

To pause there naked in the

    Hallway’s shadowed gloom

And drop the modest towel of her bath.

  • Lunch in New Orleans

Working in the CBD, I couldn't find a place nearby the serves fish at lunch prices. Of course there are many places in the Quarter, but I didn't feel like walking six blocks to cross Canal St. to get to the good places. so I opted instead to look for any place that looks like it would serve a quick lunch meal.
I'd slowly walked just a little more than 2 blocks when an attractive young lady stops and says "hello, where's the party?" I'm taken aback just a bit and pretend that I did not hear her clearly. She tries to engage me further by asking where I'm from, but I mention a large city and take another step before stopping to look around my immediate vicinity. I quickly focus on her for just an second and smiled as I continued looking around. At this point, I guess she has decided to give up and resume her own way.
    HUSTLE AVERTED? or ....?

Ended with a nice breakfast type meal for lunch at the "Ruby Slipper"

  • Working in New Orleans

So one of my co-workers is taking his vacation to go deer hunting in West Texas. I will be relieving him and performing his duties. No problem since I was the one who trained him in the first place.

The only real negative is that I will be in New Orleans from Dec 18th to the 31st. At least I'll be home in time to pop a few fireworks when the ball drops.

Downtown New Orleans will be a ghost town during the Christmas holiday. Normally not so bad ... five blocks to the casino, five or six blocks to Bourbon street. But I'm guessing that most people will be home during that time and I'm pretty sure that the bars that I normally hang out at will be closed.
