  • I think the hurricanes are following me.

It wasn't long ago that I stopped working in the office in Galveston and then got sent back out to the field.  With the devastation that Hurricane Ike laid on the city, I was reminiscing about the good times and friends I made there.  A handful of friends and one night stands more memorable that others.  My group will eventually return the city and re-establish the bases we were working out of, but it will not be the same.  Eventually the restraunts and bars that I frequented and made a lot of friends may re-open, but many won't.  Some friends will still be there because they were born and raised there.  Their self identities like their family histories are closely tied to the island.  Being a BOI was a badge they used to separate and identify themselves from the posers who had the big summer or weekend homes and fancy cars.  Like New Orleans and Katrina where many friends that I knew are now gone and one of my best friends I'll never see again.......

Then it occurred to me that I had been working and living in New Orleans for about a year, on a special project, that when completed I was sent to the field to implement and train a new batch of guys.  It wasn't that many months later that Katrina laid waste to the city.  Hmmmmmmmm?  Coincidence....absolutely!  The fact that my work is primarily in cities virtually bordering the Gulf of Mexico just means that I work in cities that have a great big hurricane target painted on them.  Sooner or later a hurricane will hit it and there will be massive damage and people uprooted

I'm slated to join another big project early next year, (should have already been there)  so I may have some more oppurtunities to partake and enjoy the local grownup entertainment.......maybe a story or two to tell if its not just a repeat of a an experience I've already had.    I'll be living and working in an area that hasn't been hit by a big deadly storm in a long time.  Some people around that area I've heard say that they're due for one.  All I know is if another storm hits an area after I have enjoyed the heck out of it.  I may have to go work somewhere else.

  • i Will finish my bar hopping story later

I was just wondering who are the persons who show up only as RSS from Great Britian and Canada in footprints.  Does anyone know how to track them back?

  • work is done in Galveston

I had many interesting experiences in the almost a year that I spent in Galveston.  I'll have to think about them some.  Though I'm not concerned about who may read them, but I think in third party fiction(?) would be the most comfortable for me.  Especially since I will be moving on to a new phase in my work soon.  New experiences? maybe.

  • On the Island

Working in the office in Galveston.  No replacement yet named for the guy I'm sitting in for.  Could be here for several hitches.  Private apartment and all!

  • Going to New Orleans Sunday afternoon.  Will be there until Thursday.  Madri Gras ends the following week so that means I'll probably see a parade or two.  Think I'll go down to Bourbon St and get some pictures of the ladies trying to earn beads.  Should be an interesting few days when I'm not at work.

Shot of the moon just before sunrise.  This picture really doesn't do it justice.  I need to get a better digital camera someday.  The sky is already getting light behind where I'm standing..
